    Promoting Ecological Literacy in Zambia
    (2026-11-3) Mpolomoka Daniel Lupiya
This chapter interrogates ecological literacy as a transformative framework that extends beyond environmental awareness to include critical thinking, responsible decision-making, environmental stewardship and active participation in sustainability initiatives. The chapter advances that meaningful environmental learning is central to formal education, community participation, experiential learning and culturally grounded knowledge systems. The chapter uncovers the significance of indigenous ecological knowledge, storytelling, youth engagement, community-based education and participatory approaches in promoting environmental responsibility and climate resilience. Participatory Action Research is presented as a powerful methodology that empowers communities to identify environmental problems, co-create solutions and implement sustainable actions through reflection, dialogue and collective learning. The chapter stresses supportive policies, cross-sector partnerships, environmental governance and inclusive participation as indispensable in strengthening ecological literacy.
