Abstract

This retrospective study evaluated clinical outcomes of cefmetazole, a cephamycin, compared with carbapenems as definitive therapy for pediatric bacteremia caused by extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales. Among 43 patients, outcomes with cefmetazole (n = 17) were comparable to those with meropenem (n = 26), including 30-day mortality and recurrence. Cefmetazole may be a carbapenem-sparing option for pediatric extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales bacteremia.
